The House of Hope
Our orphanage is known as the House of Hope. We between 30
and 35 children resident at all times. Their needs, as well as the complex in general, are catered for
by around a dozen full and part time staff.
The children eat, sleep and play in the House of Hope - it is their home. They attend a local kindergarten up until the age of 7, and then move to the primary and secondary school. Both of these facilities are, thankfully, within a couple of miles of the House making transportation that little bit more manageable.
The choice of name is obviously not an accident. Ultimately, our aim is to equip the children who grow up here with the skills to live as functionality, contributing members of society once they reach an age to do so. It is a privilege to be able to provide a safe haven for them when they would otherwise have none, but it is a greater privilege to provide a hope and a future for the young people who join us.
History
The House of Hope began as a derelict building abandoned by the Russians at the break-up of the USSR. After some investigations by the charity founders, in 2001 it was purchased and plans were drawn up to complete the building to the standard required for its intended purposes.
Following completion of the construction, and with a new staff in place, a new type of work began - finding children who needed the facilities offered by the orphanage. Children who perhaps lived with parents who did not have the means to care for them, or who had nowhere to live at all.
Children In The House
Over the course of our 10 year history we have had many children through our doors. As things currently stand, we expect to have around 30 children in the House of Hope within the next few weeks.
I'll be back to fill in this page with some stories of the children we have rescued or adopted or who have been placed in our care.
